THE CARRARA QUARRIES: WHERE THE WORLD’S MOST PRECIOUS MARBLE IS BORN

We begin our day with a visit to the legendary Carrara marble quarries, a breathtaking landscape of white mountains and sculpted cliffs.

This is where Michelangelo found the marble for his David, as well as many other Renaissance masterpieces.
We will learn about the extraction process, from ancient chisels to modern cutting techniques.
We will uncover the history of this extraordinary stone, a symbol of beauty and perfection since ancient Roman times.

In this surreal setting, sculptors have come for centuries to select the perfect block of marble, searching for the right stone to transform into an eternal masterpiece.

MICHELANGELO & THE DAVID: BRINGING MARBLE TO LIFE

Michelangelo personally traveled to Carrara to choose the perfect block for his sculptures.

Did you know the marble block for David had been rejected by other artists before him?
Michelangelo could see the artwork hidden inside the stone, his genius was in revealing it by carving away the excess.

LUNCH & A STROLL THROUGH PIETRASANTA, THE “LITTLE ATHENS”

After visiting the quarries, we will head to Pietrasanta, a charming town known as “Little Athens” for its deep artistic tradition.

A favorite place for contemporary sculptors, where workshops and galleries line the picturesque streets.
We’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, tasting the authentic flavors of Tuscan cuisine.
We’ll explore Piazza del Duomo, the heart of the town, surrounded by sculptures and artisan studios.

Walking through Pietrasanta is like stepping into an open-air museum, where art is truly the soul of the city.
