As we explore Boboli, we will meet some of the greatest characters of mythology and uncover the secrets hidden in the statues and pathways of the garden.
Perseus and Medusa – Have you ever heard of the winged horse Pegasus? Did you know he was born from Medusa’s blood when Perseus cut off her head? We’ll find his statue hidden among the trees!
Neptune, god of the sea – But did you know that Neptune is also the god of earthquakes? We’ll see him rise from a magnificent fountain, offering one of the best views of Palazzo Pitti.
Ariadne and the labyrinth – What happened after she helped Theseus escape the Minotaur’s maze? Her story is full of surprises!
Jupiter, king of the gods – Watch out! He might be hiding among the trees in the form of an animal… Jupiter loved to transform himself for his adventures!

A COOL SURPRISE: THE MEDICI ICE HOUSES!
Did you know that the Medici had their own outdoor refrigerator?
In the shadiest part of the garden, we’ll discover the ice houses, where blocks of ice from the mountains were stored to keep food and drinks cool during the hot months.
And it was thanks to this ice that the artist and architect Bernardo Buontalenti had a genius idea… he invented gelato!
